West Karbi Anglong district, Administrative district in Central Assam, India
West Karbi Anglong is an administrative district in Central Assam situated on a plateau landscape. Several rivers including Myntriang, Karbi Langpi, Kopili, and Amreng flow through the region, shaping its terrain and water systems.
This district came into being in 2016 when the original Karbi Anglong was divided into two separate territories. Hamren was chosen as the administrative seat to better serve the growing needs of the population.
The Karbi people form the foundation of this region's identity and their language is heard in daily life across villages and communities. Their customs shape how families live and celebrate together throughout the year.
The district is organized into four development blocks managed by a local autonomous council. Visitors should prepare for rural conditions and plan visits accordingly, as facilities are scattered across villages rather than concentrated in towns.
The region produces specialized crops like ginger, sugarcane, and maize that form the backbone of local farming. These crops are sold in markets and supply chains that connect small farmers to broader commercial networks across the region.
