Guwahati Planetarium, Planetarium and astronomy center in Guwahati, India.
Guwahati Planetarium is an astronomy education center located in Guwahati, the largest city in Assam, northeastern India. It features a domed theater for sky shows, equipped with a Chronos star field projector combined with digital HD video projectors.
The planetarium was founded in 1994 as the first astronomical education facility in Northeast India. Its opening changed what was possible for science education across the region.
Shows are presented in both Assamese and English, so visitors from the region and from abroad can follow along without difficulty. The programs are shaped to welcome anyone curious about the night sky, regardless of prior knowledge.
The center holds regular sky watching sessions where staff guide visitors through telescopes to observe objects in the night sky. Visiting outside the monsoon season generally gives clearer skies for observation.
The projection system here is one of only a handful of hybrid setups in all of India, ranking second only to the planetarium in New Delhi in terms of technology. This combination of classic star field projection and digital HD video is not found anywhere else in Northeast India.
