New Saraighat bridge, Road bridge over Brahmaputra River in Assam, India
The New Saraighat Bridge connects Pandu and Amingaon over the Brahmaputra River and is mainly used by cars and trucks. The structure has three lanes and significantly eases movement between the northern and southern parts of Assam.
The bridge opened in 2017 and is the fourth crossing of the Brahmaputra in the region. It was developed to improve traffic flow between the banks and strengthen economic connections between communities.
The bridge represents the continued development of infrastructure in Northeast India, supporting the movement of people between northern and southern parts of Assam.
The bridge is open daily for vehicle traffic and provides a direct crossing route over the river. Travel times vary depending on traffic, particularly during peak hours in Guwahati.
The bridge was specially engineered to handle the difficult conditions of the Brahmaputra, including strong currents and seasonal water level changes. These technical solutions allow it to function reliably over many decades.
