Kolia Bhomora Setu, Bridge in Assam, India
Kolia Bhomora Setu is a concrete bridge over the Brahmaputra linking the districts of Sonitpur and Nagaon in Assam. The structure extends over three kilometers and crosses one of the widest sections of the river in this region.
Construction began in 1981 under Prime Minister Morarji Desai, and the opening took place in 1987 by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The bridge was the second major link over the Brahmaputra in Assam.
The name honors an Ahom military commander who planned the first crossing at this site in the late 18th century. Daily traffic includes commuters, merchants, and travelers moving between the two districts in northern Assam.
The roadway accommodates lorries, buses, and smaller vehicles traveling daily between both banks. Visitors crossing the bridge should expect heavy traffic, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
The construction required an investment of 89 million rupees, with 44 million specifically allocated for the main bridge structure.
