Behali Reserved Forest

Behali Reserved Forest is a protected woodland in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, situated between two rivers and home to a variety of wildlife. The forest supports many bird and animal species along with native plants that grow throughout its boundaries.

The forest gained protected status in 1917 and contains remains from a settlement built in the 14th century by local rulers. These old ruins show that people have lived and used this land for a very long time.

Local communities, including Karbi and Munda groups, practice traditional forest use and gather materials that are important to their way of life. These activities have been part of the region for many generations.

Visitors should expect hilly terrain with varying difficulty levels depending on which areas are explored during their time here. Proper footwear and weatherproof clothing are important to make the experience comfortable and safe.
