Biswanath district

Biswanath district, Administrative district in North Assam division, India

Biswanath district spreads along the Brahmaputra River in North Assam and shares borders with Arunachal Pradesh, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, and Sonitpur districts. The landscape includes river plains and areas where foothills begin to rise.

The territory was part of the Chutiya kingdom until the 16th century, when the Ahom dynasty took control and built fortifications. These early defense structures marked an important shift in regional power.

The district is home to several communities including Assamese, Bodo, and Mising people who speak different languages and follow their own customs. This cultural diversity shapes the local celebrations and everyday interactions throughout the region.

The district headquarters is located at Biswanath Chariali with railway connections that help people move around the area. Travelers can reach other parts of Assam fairly easily from here.

Local craftspeople here make traditional bamboo and cane products using methods passed down through generations. These handmade items reflect regional expertise that few visitors know about.
