Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary

Garampani is a wildlife sanctuary in Golaghat, Assam, India, spreading across several forest types and open areas. The terrain ranges from low valleys to gentle hills, where dense greenery alternates with clearings and streams.

The area was established as a protected zone in the 1950s to preserve threatened animal species in Assam. The region gradually gained more attention through conservation initiatives that were strengthened in the following decades.

The name refers to hot springs in the area, long regarded by people living nearby as having healing properties. Today visitors often observe wildlife gathering near these warm streams and using the unusual climate.

Access requires a permit, which must be requested in advance from local authorities. A visit with an experienced guide is strongly recommended, as paths are not always clearly marked and the terrain can be demanding at times.

The warm springs create microclimates where certain plants and insects occur that are otherwise rare in the region. Some mammals use these spots year-round, especially during cooler months.
