Aul Palace

Aul Palace is a royal palace complex that spreads across a large area and houses guest buildings, a historic Darbar hall, temples, and various structures. The complex overlooks the Kharasrota River and displays a blend of architectural styles that developed over centuries.

The palace was founded around 1590 when Telenga Ramachandra Deba received permission to establish the complex. This origin marks an important moment in regional history and shows the connections between local rulers and broader political structures of that era.

The Darbar Room displays 12 massive pillars that mark the connection to the main entrance. The spaces blend architectural elements from the Mughal period with local craftsmanship traditions of the region.

The palace complex sits in a rural setting, about 100 kilometers from the nearest rail station, so planning ahead for travel is important. The best time to visit is during the dry season, when pathways and areas are easier to access.

Two former guard towers stand at opposite ends of the complex, watching over the grounds and telling of a military past. These structures show how the area was once protected and offer insight into how such compounds were built and organized.
