White Bridge, Steel bridge in Ahvaz, Iran.
White Bridge is a steel structure crossing the Karun River in Ahvaz with a span of about 500 meters. It rests on concrete foundations and features two steel arches of different lengths, with roadways and pedestrian paths on both sides.
The structure was completed in 1936 and was the first of its type in Iran and the fourth globally. Its construction represented an advancement in engineering for the region at that time.
The bridge links two parts of the city and serves as a landmark that residents recognize immediately. People cross it daily as part of their routine, making it woven into the fabric of city life.
The bridge has two lanes for vehicles and separate walkways on each side for crossing on foot. Due to the age of the structure, it currently operates as a one-way route, so pay attention to the direction of traffic when crossing.
When the lead German engineer died during construction, his wife took over the project and saw it through to completion. Her determination made it possible to finish a complex engineering work.
