Khuzestan Province

Khuzestan is a province in southwestern Iran located between Iraq and the Persian Gulf, known for substantial oil reserves. The region is crossed by several rivers that support agriculture, and it contains major cities and industrial centers.

The region was home to the Elamite civilization dating back to around 3200 BCE. It later became a center of Persian culture with important cities such as Susa.

Ahvaz is the capital city and serves as a major transportation hub connected by railways and highways to other industrial centers. When visiting the region, keep in mind that summer heat is intense and requires adequate preparation.

The ancient Shushtar hydraulic system showcases remarkable engineering through an intricate network of tunnels, watermills, and dams from the 3rd century. This installation stands as one of the oldest examples of advanced water technology and demonstrates the ingenuity of its ancient builders.
