The Masjed Soleyman Dam stretches 497 meters across the Karun River, featuring a height of 177 meters and eight Francis turbines for power generation.
Construction of the dam commenced in 1991, leading to its completion in 2002, with the power station installation occurring in two phases through 2007.
The dam takes its name from the nearby city of Masjed Soleyman, which holds archaeological evidence of being an early Achaemenid Kingdom capital.
The reservoir maintains a water level of 372 meters and contains 261 million cubic meters of water, supporting regional irrigation and power needs.
The spillway gates at Masjed Soleyman Dam rank as the largest of their type worldwide, with a capacity to handle 21,700 cubic meters per second.
