Located 29 kilometers northeast of Rome at 150 meters elevation, Mentana extends across rolling hills with a population of 23,000 inhabitants.
The settlement, known as Nomentum in ancient times, joined the Latin League and was captured by Rome in 338 BC, receiving special civic status.
