Church of Saint Peter a Grado

The stone basilica features a nave with two aisles supported by ancient columns, displaying Islamic ceramic basins on its exterior walls.

Archaeological investigations uncovered a Palaeo-Christian building over Roman structures, replaced by a larger church during the 8th-9th centuries.

The interior walls contain frescoes from 1300 by Deodato Orlandi, depicting papal portraits from Saint Peter to John XVIII and biblical scenes.

Located 7 kilometers west of Pisa center, the basilica welcomes visitors daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM without admission fees.

The basilica presents an unusual design with three apses on the east side and one on the west, where tradition places Saint Peter's first mass.
