Sant'Onofrio

Sant'Onofrio features a cross-vaulted nave with five chapels and contains frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Mary by Baldassare Peruzzi.

The monastery and church complex was established in 1439 on a hermitage site granted by Pope Eugene IV to the Order of Poor Hermits of Saint Jerome.

The cloister displays extensive fresco paintings from 1600 that illustrate the life of Saint Onofrio, created by artists Cavaliere d'Arpino and Sebastiano Strada.

The Franciscan Friars of Atonement maintain the church complex since 1947, offering Sunday Mass services and limited visiting hours during weekdays.

The church houses the tomb of Italian Renaissance poet Torquato Tasso, who spent his final days in the monastery before his death in 1595.
