Lanificio Conte, Industrial heritage museum in Schio, Italy
Lanificio Conte is a restored four-story textile factory in Schio with cast iron columns, wooden planks, and a concrete section featuring large windows that fill the interior with light. The building combines two connected structures and provides roughly 1,300 square meters of exhibition space with well-kept original factory elements.
The wool mill was founded in 1757 by Giovan Battista Conte and was among the first industrial facilities in the Schio region. It played an important role in developing the local economy and showed early innovations in textile manufacturing.
The factory space presents the evolution of textile manufacturing through preserved machinery and industrial objects that show visitors how the craft was practiced. You can see how workers spent their days among the machines and what tools they used in their daily labor.
The complex consists of two connected buildings with clear paths between exhibition areas, making it easy for visitors to explore the spaces without confusion. Guided tours are available and help you understand the restored structures and their original functions.
In 1883, this was the first wool mill in Italy to introduce electric lighting, only a few years after Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. This early adoption of electricity was a remarkable sign of the factory's technical foresight.
