Fabbrica alta, Industrial building in Schio, Italy.
Fabbrica alta is a red brick building in Schio that rises five stories high with a facade pierced by many windows and roof structures. Inside, the space is supported by a framework of cast iron columns that kept the factory floor open for production.
A Belgian architect designed this wool factory in 1861 and it was completed in less than a year. The building was part of the transformation that turned Schio from a village into a manufacturing town during the 1800s.
The building reflects the wool processing crafts that once defined Schio and turned it into a manufacturing center. Visitors today can observe the facade that speaks to this industrial past.
The building sits on Via Pasubio and is currently closed to visitors. You can view the exterior structure from the street and admire the architecture from outside.
Each floor handled a different step in wool production, from preparation to final processing. This vertical arrangement was a practical solution for keeping all manufacturing work under one roof.
