Prenestino-Centocelle, Residential district in eastern Rome, Italy
Prenestino-Centocelle is a residential neighborhood in eastern Rome combining modern buildings with older structures. The district is served by multiple transit lines and houses a diverse population in an established urban setting.
The district's name comes from Via Praenestina and the Centum Cellae fortress from the time of Constantine the Great. The area was formally established as Rome's 19th administrative district in 1961.
The neighborhood has a growing arts scene where local artists shape public spaces and give the area its character through their work. These creative projects have become an important part of the district's identity.
The neighborhood is well served by public transportation, including metro and tram lines that connect to downtown and other parts of Rome. Getting oriented in the district works best with local maps or apps, as streets follow a typical urban grid pattern.
Forte Prenestino, a massive fortification from 1880, was originally built for defense but now functions as a community center and art space. The site has evolved into an important gathering point for contemporary artistic activity.
