Villa De Sanctis

Villa De Sanctis is an urban park covering about 13 hectares in the Prenestino-Labicano district with Mediterranean plants such as olive trees, cypress, and oaks. The park features fitness areas, walking paths, and a running track that wind through the vegetation.

During Roman times, the land belonged to Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, who built a mausoleum there. This ancient burial structure remains visible in the park and marks the site's importance in antiquity.

Below the grounds lie the Catacombs of Saints Marcellinus and Peter, an underground network with painted walls and ancient burial chambers. Visitors can see the decorative frescoes that have survived for centuries within this hidden sanctuary.

The park is easy to navigate and visitors should wear good walking shoes as paths cross grass and uneven ground. It is ideal for a stroll or light exercise, and a dedicated area for dogs is available.

Carved onto the outer walls of the park are a sundial and ancient marble fragments bearing Roman inscriptions. These pieces display the ornamental details rooted in the site's early history.
