San Domenico, Baroque church in Catania, Italy
The San Domenico church features a central nave with two aisles, supported by plain pilasters and decorated with religious artworks throughout the interior space.
Following the devastating earthquake of 1693, the church underwent reconstruction in the 18th century under the supervision of Vincenzo Paterno Castello.
The church displays notable altarpieces, including a Madonna with Dominican Saints by Matteo Ragonisi and a Virgin and Child with Saints by Giacinto Platania.
Located two blocks north of Sant'Agata la Vetere on Via Santa Maddalena, San Domenico continues to function as both a church and an active convent.
The stone statue of Blessed Bernardo Scammacca, created by Epifanio Licata, stands prominently on the architrave above the church entrance.
