San Domenico

San Domenico is a Baroque church in Catania with a central nave and two side aisles supported by plain pilasters. The interior walls display religious artworks commissioned over several centuries.

After the 1693 earthquake destroyed much of Catania, the church was rebuilt in the 18th century under Vincenzo Paterno Castello's direction. This reconstruction shaped the Baroque style visible today.

A stone statue of Blessed Bernardo Scammacca by sculptor Epifanio Licata sits above the church entrance on the architrave. This figure was carved by a locally respected artist and reflects devotion to this holy man in the area.
