Church of Saint Faustino in Riposo

The Church of Saint Faustino in Riposo is a Romanesque structure with a distinctive circular stone body and a conical terracotta roof. The bell chamber features four arched openings designed for the bells and ventilation, topped by a pointed crown that rises above the surrounding roofline.

An original shrine stood on this site from the 8th century as a modest chapel. Following a fire in the 12th century, the current building was constructed and underwent further modifications through subsequent periods.

The church serves as a place of devotion where visitors leave votive offerings to express personal intentions and prayers. This practice connects the community to Saint Faustino and creates an intimate space for spiritual reflection.

Access to the church is gained through a small doorway situated beneath the Porta Bruciata tower, reached via a narrow passageway from Via dei Musei. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the approach is narrow and involves walking on uneven cobblestone surfaces.

The bell tower has an unusual inverted pine cone shape, with its cylindrical stone body topped by a notched brick conical roof. This rare architectural feature is rarely seen in this part of northern Italy and immediately catches the eye.
