San Marco

San Marco is a Gothic-style church in Jesi with three naves, where the central one extends roughly twice the width of the side ones. The building follows a classical basilica layout with this characteristic spatial arrangement.

A monastery and chapel from the 12th century were rebuilt in Gothic style during the 13th century and relocated closer to the city walls. This transformation marked the shift of the site into a major religious center for the city.

The entrance portal displays local artistic skill with cipollino and red Verona marble, decorated with spiral columns and symbols of the Lamb and Winged Lion of Saint Mark. These decorative choices reflect the religious importance this building held for the community.

The church is located at Via San Marco 14 in the city center and is easily reached on foot without requiring special transportation. Visitors should note this is an active place of worship, so appropriate dress and quiet behavior are important.

The facade shows Lombard features with a pointed gable and terracotta decorations, including a twelve-part rose window at its center. These architectural details were typical of the regional building style common to many structures in the area during that period.
