Teatro Pergolesi, Opera house in Jesi, Italy.
Teatro Pergolesi is an opera house in central Jesi, designed in a neoclassical style by architect Cosimo Morelli and opened in 1798. The interior is arranged across four levels, with tiered boxes, a stall floor, and an upper gallery that all face the stage directly.
The building opened under the name Teatro della Concordia during the Carnival season of 1798, with a performance of Portogallo's opera "Lo spazzacamino principe". It was later renamed in honor of the composer born in Jesi, and has kept that name ever since.
The theatre is named after Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, a composer born in Jesi whose work left a deep mark on 18th-century European music. Today, the hall continues to host opera and classical concerts, keeping a living connection between the city and its most famous son.
The theatre is located in central Jesi and can be reached on foot from most parts of the old town. Access to the upper levels is by stairs only, so visitors with mobility needs should check seating options before booking.
Unlike many Italian theatres of its era, this one never suffered serious fire damage or wartime destruction. As a result, much of the original interior woodwork and box structure has survived largely intact to this day.
