Santa Maria dei Battilani, Former Catholic church in Florence, Italy

Santa Maria dei Battilani features a long single-hall layout with wooden trusses and eight large windows illuminating the interior space.

The church housed the Ciompi corporation, which reformed as the Wool Beaters Brotherhood in 1380 following the 1378 uprising in Florence.

The portal on Via delle Ruote displays a split pediment decorated with symbols representing the ancient wool beaters profession.

The building is undergoing restoration work to transform it into an auditorium for university faculties in Florence's historical center.

Until the 1930s, the church operated a charitable service providing daily bread rations to people in need.
