San Marco Museum, Art museum in former monastery, Florence, Italy
The San Marco Museum contains extensive frescoes and panel paintings by Fra Angelico, displayed throughout former Dominican monastery cells and halls.
The building, restored by architect Michelozzo during the 15th century for Cosimo de Medici, transformed from a convent into Italy's first public library.
The museum exhibits numerous illuminated manuscripts created within its walls, alongside Renaissance works from Ghirlandaio and other period artists.
Located near the Accademia Gallery, the museum opens daily from 8:15 AM to 1:50 PM, except specific Sundays, New Year's Day, May 1st, and Christmas.
The cells contain personal meditation spaces of prominent figures, including Savonarola's quarters and Cosimo de Medici's private prayer room.
