Oratory of Gesù Pellegrino

The Oratory of Gesù Pellegrino is a Renaissance building at the corner of Via San Gallo and Via degli Arazzieri, where a simple exterior conceals a decorated interior. The space preserves paintings and altarpieces skillfully integrated into its walls.

In 1313, Bishop Antonio d'Orso founded a hospice here for pilgrims who were priests, which gradually transformed into a religious gathering place over time. This shift reflects how the space evolved in the Florence landscape.

The interior walls display frescos and altarpieces showing scenes from Christ's life, which shape the space with religious imagery that visitors notice right away upon entering.

The location sits at Via San Gallo 31 in the historic center and is easy to reach on foot while exploring the area. Most visitors need about an hour to view the interior fully.

The tomb of priest Arlotto Mainardi, who served from 1396 to 1484, rests inside this building and stands as a rare example of a private religious burial. This memorial honors a notable local teacher whose name many visitors overlook.
