Palazzo Maggiani

Palazzo Maggiani is an Art Nouveau palace in central La Spezia located at the intersection of Corso Cavour and Viale Aldo Ferrari. The building features different decorative patterns on each floor of its exterior and contains a glass-covered internal courtyard as well as three separate staircases for access.

The building was constructed between 1900 and 1902 and was the first of its kind to feature a hydraulic elevator in La Spezia. This elevator remained operational until the 1990s and represents an early introduction of modern technology in the city.

The palace displays typical Art Nouveau elements through angel figures, peacock motifs, and sunflower designs across its exterior. These decorative details shape the character of the street and make it a distinctive example of this style in the city.

The palace is centrally located in La Spezia and is easily accessible by foot from main streets. The entrance hall features a wooden carved concierge lodge that marks the entry area and shows how this space was historically designed.

The palace received recognition at the 1910 Paris Exhibition for its architectural design. This was a significant honor that acknowledged its innovative elements on the international stage.
