Pineto Regional Park

Pineto Regional Park, Regional park in Province of Rome, Italy

Pineto Regional Park is a protected natural area in the Province of Rome featuring Mediterranean vegetation with cork oaks and a wide range of plant species spread across three distinct zones. The park's layout reflects different landscape types depending on elevation and exposure to sun and wind.

This area was once managed as an estate by the Torlonia family and maintained agricultural use across generations. Part of the land, called the Valley of Hell, served as a limestone quarry in the 16th century that supplied stone for constructing Saint Peter's Basilica.

The grounds reveal traces of the ancient Torlonia estate, which functioned as a working farm for centuries and shaped how Romans used the countryside. Visitors today can sense this agricultural past through the layout of the land and the structures scattered throughout.

The park can be reached through multiple entrances and is well connected by public transport serving the Rome area. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water, particularly if planning to explore all three zones during your visit.

The park includes a dedicated area called Forest of Life planted with common oaks and Judas trees, creating an unexpected wooded feeling near Rome. This makes the spot memorable for those seeking woodland experience within an otherwise densely populated region.
