Monte delle Fate

Monte delle Fate is a mountain reaching approximately 1090 meters and stretching across three municipalities in this region. Its slopes feature dense oak forests mixed with open grassland, connected by marked hiking trails that lead to the summit.

This mountain held significance for the ancient Ausoni people, who performed rituals and celebrations here in connection with their religious practices. Their presence left lasting marks on the landscape that remain visible today.

Local stories speak of fairies linked to the water sources on this mountain, where they supposedly gather in the shade of ancient trees. These tales continue to shape how visitors experience and interpret the landscape.

The main trail starts near the Madonna della Pietà parking area and follows an old mule track that runs along a ravine toward Serra Palombi pass. The path is well-defined but requires proper walking shoes and is most comfortable to hike during dry weather.

Several ancient dry stone walls surround meadows on this mountain, creating distinct boundaries across the landscape. From higher elevations, visitors can see the twin peaks of Monte Ceraso and Monte Peschio, which mark the horizon in the distance.
