Torre dell'Orso

Torre dell'Orso is a square-based watchtower perched on a limestone cliff overlooking the Adriatic, commanding views across the surrounding coastline and sandy beaches. The structure sits within a dramatic rocky landscape shaped by coastal erosion, with notable rock formations visible from its vantage point.

Built in 1568 as part of the Salento coastal defense network, this watchtower was designed to guard against maritime threats. During the 16th century, such structures served as the first line of warning and defense across the Adriatic coast.

You can reach the tower by following marked footpaths from Torre dell'Orso beach, with designated viewpoints for taking in the views. The walk is relatively straightforward from the beach area, and the surrounding paths offer multiple spots to stop and observe the structure and coastline.

The tower shares its coastal setting with two striking natural rock formations called Due Sorelle, which rise from the water like sentinels. These distinctive stacks are clearly visible from the tower and serve as natural markers that help define the local seascape.
