Villa Carpena, Museum and historical villa in San Martino in Strada, Forlì, Italy
Villa Carpena is a museum and residential building from the early 20th century in San Martino in Strada, a hamlet near Forlì in Emilia-Romagna. The structure rises three floors and holds living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and a workspace furnished with original pieces, surrounded by gardens and outbuildings.
In 1914 the family acquired the farmhouse and used it until 1943 as a country retreat away from Rome. After seizure by the Italian state the building later became a museum preserving everyday items and rooms from those decades.
The name Carpena recalls the agricultural estate it once was before entering national memory. Visitors today walk through rooms set with original furniture, a workspace holding desk and personal items, and a sculpture collection reflecting daily life and the aesthetic of the interwar years.
The approach runs about 8 kilometers from central Forlì or 13 kilometers from Predappio along country roads. Guided visits show the main rooms, gardens, and outbuildings, with the grounds slightly uneven so sturdy footwear helps.
A cardboard playhouse built in 1927 still stands in the garden, showing family life with children on the estate. The grounds also hold a working German liaison aircraft Fieseler Fi 156 Storch on display, making military technology of that era tangible.
