Faggi di Entracque, Gruppo di faggi monumentali a Entracque
The Faggi di Entracque are ancient beech trees located in a mountain village in the Maritime Alps. These trees stand about 26 meters tall with trunks wider than 1.5 meters and display a distinctive columnar shape.
The tree has grown for at least 100 to 200 years and was photographed in 1883 showing established shoots and growth. A royal hunting lodge built in 1875 nearby shaped the human history of this mountain area.
The tree stands on private land and visitors must request permission to access it beforehand. The surrounding terrain is flat with deep soil, making the location relatively easy to reach.
Several trees originally grew in this group, but over time some fell and others were damaged, leaving only this one standing. The survivor represents the sole remaining member of its original woodland companions.
