Cima Maledia, Alpine summit in Maritime Alps, Italy and France

Cima Maledia rises to an elevation of 3,061 meters, forming a natural border between the Italian Piedmont region and the French Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

The first mountaineers to reach the summit in 1895 were Louis Maubert and Jean-Baptiste Plent, who established the northwest route as the standard path.

The name Maledia originates from regional folklore about three sisters who pronounced a curse upon the mountain, resulting in its barren landscape.

Climbers can find accommodation at two mountain shelters: the Pagari refuge on the Italian side and the Nizza refuge on the French side.

Two glaciers flow from the mountain slopes: the Maledia Glacier to the northeast and the Pagari Glacier, which extends toward the Lago Pagari refuge.
