Villa Contarini Giovanelli Venier, Venetian villa in Vo', Italy
Villa Contarini Giovanelli Venier is a three-story residence in Vo' with a characteristic square layout organized into three spatial sections. The structure features central halls and lateral wings connected by a spiral staircase that serves as a connecting element.
The Contarini family built the residence in the late 1500s when rural estates were important to regional families. The Giovanelli-Venier family later took over the property and made structural modifications to suit their needs.
The building displays the symmetrical design typical of Venetian palace architecture, with ornate facades and classical room layouts throughout. Visitors can observe these design principles in how the rooms are arranged and how the walls are decorated.
The building now houses a museum dedicated to landscape history with different exhibition areas inside. Visitors should allow enough time to explore the collections and memorial spaces at a comfortable pace.
During the Second World War, from 1943 to 1944, the property served as a temporary detention center. Approximately sixty people were held there before being transported to concentration camps, making the villa a site of significant historical weight.
