Villa Repeta, Renaissance villa in Campiglia dei Berici, Italy.

Villa Repeta is a Renaissance country residence in the Veneto region featuring a distinctive covered walkway design. A continuous Doric portico on a single level wraps around a rectangular courtyard with two dovecotes positioned at opposite corners.

An earlier building designed by Andrea Palladio was destroyed by fire in 1557 and subsequently replaced by the current structure. Enea and Scipione Repeta commissioned its reconstruction in 1672.

The villa demonstrates how the Repeta family thought about space and family life through its layout, where living and working areas occupy equal importance. You can see how a wealthy household of that era organized itself in one cohesive design.

The site is best explored on foot so you can view the architecture from different angles. Plan to spend time observing the proportions and details of the portico carefully.

The original Palladio building survives only as an architectural drawing published in a famous architecture handbook in 1570. This makes it possible to compare how dramatically the design changed after the fire destroyed it.
