Shizunai, Former municipality in Shizunai District, Hokkaido, Japan
Shizunai was a municipality in eastern Hokkaido that spread across expansive land. The settlement was home to thousands of people living across its wide territory.
The place started as a village in 1909 and gained town status in 1931. In 2006 it merged with a neighboring community to form the new city Shinhidaka.
The municipality integrated Japanese administrative practices with traditional Ainu influences, reflecting the regional heritage of Hokkaido through local festivals.
Today the place is part of Shinhidaka and can be reached through regional transportation links. Visitors can explore the area and experience the landscape of eastern Hokkaido.
The place was known for a cherry tree-lined road called Nijikken-doro that drew visitors in spring. This flowering street was a local feature that pulled many people to the area.
