Iwadeyama Castle, Japanese castle in Iwadeyama, Japan

The castle site features remaining fortification elements including earthen walls, dry moats, and strategic gate structures on elevated ground in Miyagi Prefecture.

Built between 1394 and 1428 by the Ujie clan, the castle served as Date Masamune's residence for 12 years before he established Sendai Castle.

The castle grounds contain the Yubishikan, an educational institution from the Edo period that preserved samurai traditions and martial training methods.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins by taking a 15-minute walk from Iwadeyama Station on the JR Rikuu East Line or a 20-minute drive from Furukawa IC.

A concrete statue of Date Masamune stands at the western bailey, replacing the original bronze statue that was melted during World War II metal collection.
