Honjo, Historical district in Sumida-ku, Japan.

Honjo is a neighborhood in eastern Tokyo that spans multiple blocks with the Sumida River marking its western boundary. The area blends historical landmarks with modern retail, office buildings, and schools that define its current character.

The area was an independent ward of Tokyo in the early 1900s until it merged with Mukojima in 1947 to form the current Sumida ward. This consolidation shaped the administrative structure that remains in place today.

The neighborhood contains temples like Genko-ji and Kegon-ji that reflect the spiritual life of the community. These sacred sites shape the streetscape and show how residents maintain their religious traditions in daily life.

The area is well connected to central Tokyo through multiple transportation routes, making it easy to reach and explore. Visitors will find modern shops and restaurants alongside older buildings that can be comfortably explored on foot.

Lion Corporation, a major hygiene product manufacturer, maintains its headquarters in this former industrial area that once housed factories and workers. This transformation shows how the neighborhood evolved from a production hub into a modern business center.
