Chichu Art Museum

The museum structure extends underground with geometric shapes connected by corridors, incorporating natural light through strategic openings in the concrete walls.

In 1999, publishing company executive Soichiro Fukutake purchased Claude Monet artworks and collaborated with architect Tadao Ando to create this museum.

The permanent collection features six Water Lilies paintings by Claude Monet, alongside installations by Walter De Maria and James Turrell in dedicated spaces.

Museum entry costs between 2500 and 3000 yen depending on the day, with operating hours from 10:00 to 18:00 during summer and 10:00 to 17:00 in winter.

A 400-square-meter garden replicates Monet's Giverny with 150 plant species and 40 tree varieties mentioned in the artist's paintings.
