Bairin Park, Public park in Gifu, Japan
Bairin Park is a public park in Gifu featuring a large collection of plum trees in different varieties spread throughout the grounds. The trees display white and red blossoms during the flowering season, creating changing visual scenes across the landscape.
The grounds began in 1872 as a private garden before later opening to the public. After a period under private management, it passed into the hands of Gifu city and took on its current form.
This place has long served as a gathering spot where people come in spring to enjoy the flowering trees and celebrate the season with others. Visitors walk slowly through the grounds, taking photos and spending time with family and friends beneath the blossoms.
The best time to visit is from January through March when the blossoms appear and the park is at its liveliest. The pathways are easy to walk, and there is plenty of space for strolling and resting.
An old locomotive engine from World War II era sits on the grounds, creating an unexpected industrial contrast to the flowering trees around it. This mechanical relic stands out to many visitors who otherwise focus on the blossoms.
