Enchō-en, Chinese garden and theme park in Yurihama, Japan

Enchō-en is a Chinese garden and recreation area in Yurihama featuring traditional buildings, pavilions, stone bridges, and an artificial waterfall with views toward Lake Togo. The roughly 10,000-square-meter space blends classical garden design with modern leisure facilities.

The site opened in 1995 to mark a sister relationship between Tottori Prefecture and Hebei Province in China. Design elements and construction materials came directly from China, establishing a lasting connection between the two regions.

The grounds showcase traditional Chinese imperial architecture, with ochre-colored roof tiles that historically belonged only to emperors and many sheltered pathways for walking. Visitors find themselves moving through spaces designed with 28 specific viewpoints meant for pausing and taking in the surroundings.

The grounds sit on sloping terrain overlooking the lake, so comfortable walking shoes are important and visitors should allow time to move slowly through the space. Many pathways are covered, which helps during rain, though the uneven ground can be tiring during longer stays.

The location serves as a filming location for productions seeking authentic Chinese architecture and settings. Visitors can rent period costumes on-site to wear while exploring and posing for photos throughout the grounds.
