Kusaki Dam

Kusaki Dam is a gravity dam that crosses the Watarase River near Midori. The structure creates a large reservoir that shapes the local landscape and supplies water to the surrounding area.

The Japan Water Agency started construction in 1965 and finished the project in 1976. The dam was built to manage water resources for the surrounding communities.

The Kusaki Lake Festival takes place on August 15, bringing together residents near the dam for trout catching activities and firework displays.

You can reach the dam by bus from Shinmachi Station or Gunma-Fujioka Station with trips taking around one hour or forty minutes. Visit on clear days when the paths around the structure are easy to walk.

The dam management office maintains water quality analysis facilities that monitor heavy metal concentrations daily to ensure downstream water safety.
