Hanetaki Bridge, Triangular pedestrian bridge in Midori, Japan

The Hanetaki Bridge is a pedestrian crossing with a distinctive A-frame steel structure spanning a gorge of the Watarase River. The structure has a narrow walking surface that allows people on foot to see the rocks and water below as they pass over it.

A wooden suspension bridge predecessor from 1953 was later replaced by a modern steel construction that provided safer and more durable crossing. The rebuilding marked a turning point for the connection between the two districts and improved access for decades.

The bridge displays art contributions from communities across Japan, reflecting a sense of connection between different regions of the country. Visitors can discover these pieces while crossing and experience how local collaboration comes together in one space.

The bridge lies within walking distance of stations with regular connections and is easy to reach for people traveling on foot or by bicycle. The narrow walkway requires caution during bad weather or strong winds.

The name comes from the sound of water splashing against the rocks below, creating a waterfall-like effect that visitors can watch from above. This natural occurrence has given the bridge its name and remains an engaging feature on every visit.
