Mt. Sukai, Stratovolcano summit in Nikko Numata, Japan.

Mount Sukai rises to 2,144 meters within the Ashio Mountains, marking the border between Tochigi Prefecture and Gunma Prefecture in central Japan.

The mountain served as part of a challenging three-mountain race during the Edo period, when climbers performed religious practices across its peaks.

Each year, mountain enthusiasts gather at Mount Sukai to continue the traditional practice of ascending through eleven connected peaks between Mount Koshin and Nokogiri.

The main climbing route starts at Ginzandaira in Tochigi Prefecture, requiring technical skills to navigate sections equipped with ladders and chains.

The mountain contains an unmanned shelter called Koshin retreat near its summit, providing protection for climbers in the remote wilderness.
