Onsen-ji, Buddhist temple in Nikko Yumoto Onsen, Japan.
The temple incorporates a small public bath facility within its structure, where visitors can experience traditional hot spring waters in a wooden tub.
Founded by Buddhist monk Shōdō in 788, Onsen-ji underwent complete reconstruction in 1973 after a typhoon caused its collapse in 1966.
The temple combines religious practices with the Japanese bathing tradition, offering visitors both spiritual contemplation and natural hot spring experiences.
Located 80 minutes by bus from Nikko Station, the temple requests a 500 yen donation for bath access and requires visitors to bring their own towels.
Three gilded Buddha statues within the temple measure 7.5 meters in height, representing deities connected to the three principal mountains of the area.
