Kisuge-Daira Park, Highland park at 1300-1600 meters in Nikko, Japan
Kisuge-Daira Park is a highland park situated between 1300 and 1600 meters elevation in Nikko, Japan. The terrain encompasses multiple areas with walking paths, viewpoints, and seasonal flower fields across the natural landscape.
The area was originally a ski resort opened in 1965 but was transformed into a nature park in 2004. Along with this conversion, a stairway with over 1400 steps was installed to provide easier access for visitors.
The park is known for its wild day lilies, which are maintained by volunteers to preserve the flower diversity. Visitors can experience the blooming fields, especially in summer when bright flowers cover the meadows.
The park is best visited during the warmer months from April through November, when the trails are open and flowers are blooming. Visitors should wear good footwear since the paths and numerous steps require physical effort.
From the Komaruyama lookout point, visitors can see Tokyo Skytree, Mount Fuji, and the Pacific Ocean on clear days. This rare sightline reveals the remarkable elevation and clear air at this mountain location.
