Kirifuri Falls, Waterfall in Nikko, Japan
Kirifuri Falls is a waterfall in Nikko composed of two sections flowing down the mountainside, with an upper drop of roughly 25 meters followed by a lower cascade of around 26 meters. The two parts create a continuous display of water moving through the rocky terrain.
In 1915, a French diplomat discovered a rare insect species near the waterfall that was later named in his honor. This discovery connected the location to documented scientific attention and natural history records.
The waterfall ranks among Nikko's celebrated cascades and draws visitors seeking to experience the raw power of falling water. The site serves as a place where people connect with the natural force of water in the mountains.
You can reach the viewing platform within a few minutes of walking from the parking area, and bus services connect to the nearby stations. The location is accessible and the terrain is easy for most visitors to navigate.
The name comes from the Japanese word meaning mist and describes the fine spray created when water strikes the rocks below. This continuous mist effect gives the falls their distinctive name.
