Sakuradote Kofun, Ancient tomb cluster in Hadano, Japan.
Sakuradote Kofun comprises 35 circular burial mounds spread across approximately 10,240 square meters in Hadano City, with the largest reconstructed mound measuring 28 meters in diameter and 5.6 meters in height.
The burial mounds date from the late Kofun period between the 6th and 8th centuries, representing the final phase of ancient Japanese burial practices before the adoption of Buddhist cremation customs.
Archaeological excavations have revealed grave goods including magatama curved beads, iron swords, Sue ware pottery, and earrings that demonstrate the sophisticated burial rituals and social hierarchy of ancient Japanese communities.
The site operates as a public park from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM daily with free admission, offering parking for 23 vehicles and educational programs organized by Hadano City's Cultural and Sports Department.
Six preserved burial mounds remain protected within the park grounds while 29 others are maintained within neighboring factory premises, creating an unusual blend of industrial development and archaeological preservation.
