Tōshō-in

Dating back to the eighth century, Tōshō-in remained a significant religious center throughout the Tokugawa period, maintaining connections with powerful feudal clans.

The temple serves as a center for Zen meditation practices, where monks and practitioners engage in Shikantaza meditation, chanting, and traditional musical performances.

Visitors can access the temple grounds between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM throughout the year, with modified hours during winter months.

The temple maintains a training hall called Sodo where an international community of monks and nuns practices traditional Buddhist monastic disciplines.
