Isehara, Residential city in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Isehara is a city in Kanagawa Prefecture, located on the central part of the region in Japan. The administrative area covers residential neighborhoods, industrial zones, and forested hills that rise from the flatlands toward the mountains in the west.
The area developed from agricultural villages and was officially organized as a town in 1889. The administrative structure changed in 1971, when the settlement received city status.
Mount Oyama, rising 1,252 meters within Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park, represents a centuries-old spiritual center for Japanese religious practices.
The city is accessible via the Odakyu railway line, which serves several stations within the area and connects to Tokyo and neighboring cities. Public buses complement the transport network and make it easier to move between different parts of town.
Most of the urban development sits in the eastern half, while the western slopes remain largely forested and merge directly into a protected natural area. Many streets in the center follow a loose grid, reflecting the growth from smaller villages that merged over time.
