Tawaramachi Station, railway station in Fukui, Fukui prefecture, Japan
Tawaramachi Station is a railway station in Fukui where two companies, Fukui Railway and Echizen Railway, have operated together since 2016. The station has a side platform and an island platform connected by a ground-level crossing.
The station opened in 1937 as part of Mikuni Awara Electric Railway. After service interruptions during World War II and later operator changes, it reopened under Echizen Railway in 2003, ensuring continued service for travelers.
The station sits along Phoenix-dōri, a street where students, workers, and visitors pass daily. It serves as a meeting point for the local community and shows how important trains are to everyday life in Fukui.
The station is open from early morning until late evening with ramps and support available for passengers with mobility challenges. It is best to contact the station ahead of time if you need extra assistance or have questions about your journey.
Since 2022, there is a small library in the waiting area that opened during renovations at the nearby city library. Travelers can read books or relax while waiting for their train.
